MacBook Pro A1260 (EMC 2198) Doesn't Boot

Hello.

I have a 2008 Macbook pro that won't boot at all. I get nothing but the white light on the latch, solid with no beeps, no display, no bong, nothing. I have two logic boards, neither of which power on, at least since I last tested them. I believe they both have issues with the ram latches, to the point where the sticks will barely lock in, if at all.

I hope this isn't the GPU. I have practically no knowledge of soldering, and I bought the second logic board just to fix this. 😬

Please help!

  • Hello!

It's most likely the GPU. Literally half of 2008 have the GPU issue. Try leaving one RAM slot empty, then the other slot empty, because sometimes the problem is one slot but not the other, and leaving the bad slot empty can cause it to power up. You can also manually hold the RAM down while powering on to see if the problem is they are not staying in place.

You don't want to attempt rework unless you're really into that. For most people going that route is a lost cause.

There are enough of these machines that you can pick up a pile on eBay for cheap, until you find one that is working.

Because of the topic I assume you saw my recent video in which I talk about these machines, but if not check out youtube.com/rdklinc.
