John Bumstead started a laptop refurbishing business in 2008 and has repaired and refurbished thousands of laptops yearly ever since.  He discovered a creative use for damaged devices and repurposes broken screens and defective graphics processors as filters to affect his photography.  Most recently he has pursued deconstructing and reimagining LCD screens in order to explore their polarized qualities, both in photographs and installations.  Additionally, John is a repair activist who has been interviewed by many major publications on the topics of repair, refurbishing, small business, art, and antitrust issues.
