I used to love my Pismo, but it is now lost. What I intend to do are two, maybe three makeovers, for which I need two maybe three Pismos and a few batteries.
Build 1 simply restores the Pismo, repacks the batteries, inserts an airport card, and installs BSD with VNC. I'll put a pretty powerful Raspberry Pi in the right expansion bay and VNC to that through wifi. Bazoo.
Build 2 keeps the keyboard, batteries, and that Pi, but replaces the screen and motherboard with a more powerful single board computer.
The third option is just to replace the screen with an iPad Pro and have the Pismo act as a Magic Keyboard. I'll need parts so any connections you folks can make please do.

Best option is to buy parts machines on eBay. Honestly I'd recommend Lombard since you're gutting it anyway and those sell far cheaper than Pismo (which is the high-end and goes for a premium).
