Hello John my name is Dirt im new to the forum saw your face on a Louis Roussman podcast and thought your take was an interesting one. From the device repair aspects im green as a tree and was looking at the costs and pay associated with buying used broken devices like the imacs or ipads refurbing them and selling them and was looking at the profit involved. Since you are a veteran in that field I thought you could answer my question. Thanks for answering.

Hello John, my name is Antonio Goncalves I am an 18 years old student and High School in Connecticut. Well the reason I'm sending this email is that I have bent watching your videos from your youtube channel (thanks to Hugh Jefferyes), and I'm a big fan of laptops and computers just like you. Well I really do wanna learn how to repair and disassemble laptops and practice a lot. Well moving to the point, I would like to receive some laptops, phones, computer, console and etc, so I can practice and learn by myself to fix them and find a use for it. But the big problem is my Mom, she doesn't let me spend money so I can start buying and repairing them. So I would like to see if I could get to a point where I could get some from you and try to pay the least as I can (I don't know how am I gonna do this but yeah). Buying a lot of for-parts MacBooks from RDKL INC

I am interested in purchasing a for parts lot much like Hugh Jeffreys did. I saw a video recently where John said that if we send 70 bucks we can get some parts systems but I'm not sure of how to get that ball rolling. Any thoughts?

Hi John. My name is Robert and I am interested in the refurbishing field for macs. I currently have a full time job as a heavy equipment operator and Repair smartphones, game consoles and try to fix anything of value that someone brings to me. About three years ago I took the Practical Board Repair class with Jessa and Louis Rossman, which was great but never got going full time. I live out in the country and think refurbishing would be best option for me after reading a lot of your posts on pro talk and your website. And I really want to quit my job and work from home. I know you get a lot of questions all the time and understand if you don't feel like replying. But here goes. Is there any recyclers you could recommend me getting in touch with? I have heard stories where people have gotten a lot of junk ones. I wanted to start out with like what you said and do a proof of concept first. And buy like 10 and see how it goes. Also what is a good model to go with that is low cost and good profitability? And how much is a good price to pay? I have all the tools and equiment for board repair. And really want to make this work cause my wife says I will never make enough to quit my day job. So I want to prove her wrong. lol I'm sure Im forgetting something but this is probably too much anyways. I do really appreciated any help you can give me. Thanks.

Hi, John I have watched your videos.And I have a few question's If you do that sort of thing? And if not I understand. First what in your opinion is the best thing to refurbish? Cell phones, Tablets, Laptops Etc? And second, where do you find a place to sell you product? I have tried Ebay and most of the stuff I get from there has been gone thru, Missing parts etc. Basically there junk, I would like a product that I can repair and resell, I would like to do it in semi-Bulk, Not like 1000 PCS....Lol. Well, I would like to know your thoughts on the subject. Thank you in Advance M&LCell

MBP 3,1 video issue

About a week or so ago my MBP began to freeze up. It seemed to happen when I'd stepped away for a while and the screen saver was running. A month ago I replaced the internal HD with a 1TB kit from OWC and added one of those cooling fan platforms under the laptop, along with a stand to keep it cool because I'd noticed the laptop running quite hot. It's pretty much stationed at my desk these days. It replaced a stolen MBP from a few years ago. Anyhow -- the screens (two) get funky pinkish pixels, accompanied by sluggish response or no response then I have to force a shut down. After multiple attempts this afternoon to reboot I got it to run stable enough to get through a little audio editing project before I shut it down. Early in the edit session, the screens became distorted but to my surprise I was able to save the project and power down and restart. Does this sound like a Nividia issue or something else? Should I question my install of the new HD?

Bad RAM Slot Mac - Not Giving Up!

So here's the background: Have 2 4gb RAM cards, only one is getting recognized on Macbook Pro mid-2009 running on OSX 10.10.2. I have run the Apple Hardware Test, running the Memtest (which is redundant since I have already switching out both cards in the good slot and bad slot to isolate issue, I know). Found that when RAM is plugged in to the bad slot, the computer will not turn on and it will beep...indicating most likely a bad RAM slot. My question is is there any other way to fix this other than replacing the logic board? Do not want to invest much more into this Macbook but cannot afford a new setup right now. Just want to exhaust any creative options out there that may work before I accept my fate

So I recently purchased this macbook off of ebay for a fairly good price. The previous owner had told me that the laptop had come with a password lock, and he had no clue on how to remove it. I tried to reseat ram, and clear the pram and the password is still there.
